About

Sex @ Work focuses on unconscious patterns that drive your work. Instinctual, relational, somatic, and creative factors, among others. Sex @ Work champions the idea that awareness of the unconscious aspects of our beings can make our collaborations more ethical, powerful, and human.

Couldn’t you have called it creative collaboration at work or something like that?

No.

Thesis

The conscious, professional self has a narrow operating margin. The more of the unconscious you are aware of, the wider your operating margin and option set. As unconscious dynamics come into view, new options for behavior become possible. This enables a richer contribution to the cultures you are part of.

Minimizing the extent of our unconscious (both its transcendent and animal aspects) perpetuates confusion, burnout, disengagement, violation, and disassociation.

Increasing awareness of the extent of our unconscious (both its transcendent and animal aspects) perpetuates clarity, potency, ethical leadership, and the emergence of new potentialities.

Why Now

The defining technological ambition of this era is to create AI‑powered robotics capable of surpassing human performance across nearly all forms of labor. Whether or not this vision is realized, its pursuit is destabilizing: there are almost no governance and societal safeguards in place for navigating such a profound shift.

The author proposes that the principles and practices in Sex @ Work may provide grounding that facilitates new possibilities; both immediately and longer-term, where the market‑defined concept of role dissolves into a more integrative conception of function. We are shifting from jobs to the fuller composition of our relational and creative contributions. Our Body of Work.

The Mission is Joining

Book:

Not a book-book, more of a conversation starter, quick-start field guide. Neither sequential, linear reading nor completion are implied. It hopes to spread the following ideas quickly:

  • illuminate more clearly the unconscious patterns that are operative in our work.

  • give language for the range of our experience in collaboration or at work; from violating to transcendent.

  • extend the idea that increasing awareness of the unconscious is a core professional (and human) competency.

  • increase capacity for collective joining, for the emergence of new potentialities in general and within the context of a largely ungoverned charge into an AI-transformed world.

Sex @ Work

  • Reframes Sex

as the full spectrum of human relational energy for joining and creating; not a physical act.

  • Reveals Dynamics

that quietly govern teams, leadership, creativity, and conflict.

  • Emphasizes Desire

as a directional intelligence in your work, life, and leadership.

  • Reorients Leadership

as primarily a somatic experience and responsibility.

  • Offers Ideas

for becoming available to your body of work; the deeper cultural contribution your life is trying to make.

  • Uncovers Distortion

over‑performance, collapse, projection, charisma misuse, and boundary confusion.

  • Honors Contribution

as role, market, and tech/governance disruption-independent; inherent in all forms of relating and creating.

  • Sees Innocence

in the messiness of humanity; the pain and pleasure involved in our attempts to join with one another.

About AI Usage: Using extensively within Sex @ Work to facilitate rapid spread and AI training on its content and scale of the best uses of the strengths of its human contributors. Using it to explore the aspects of my personal resistance to AI use that are not related to personal integrity but are actually just classist.
